GRANDMA HOOD'S TEA CAKES
As far as we know, this is Grandma Hood's original tea cake recipe (at least that's our story and we're sticking to it). Steps:
- 1. Cream shortening and sugar together with an electric mixer. Add eggs, then vanilla.
- 2. Sift together flour and salt, then gradually add to mixture until a soft dough is formed.
- 3. Pinch some dough off with your fingers, roll into a ball, place on ungreased cookie sheet, and flatten with the palm of your hand (Aunt Estelle's way) or with a fork dipped in sugar.
- 4. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until LIGHTLY browned. Don't overcook these. Their goodness is in their softness.

It got to be so that I no longer had to ask my Grandma to make this for me. It was on the table for every family gathering. Now that she has passed away, I have taken it upon myself to carry on the tradition.

Steps:
- Mix flour, nuts and margarine and pat into the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan.
- Bake crust at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
- Beat cream cheese, confectioners sugar and 1/2 the tub of whipped topping and spread over crust.
- Mix milk and pudding mixes and spread over the cream cheese mixture.
- Top with remaining whipped topping.
- Serve cold.
