12 ounces spareribs
1 garlic clove
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon orange marmalade
1 onion
salt
pepper
1/2 stock, cube
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon vinegar

Steps:

  • Heat the grill. Put the ribs in the grill pan and brown them under the grill, turning frequently, to seal in the juices. If you don't have a grill, brown the ribs in a frying pan, with a little oil or butter, over a medium heat, for 2-3 minutes, turning often. Peel and crush the garlic clove.
  • Mix the soy sauce, marmalade and garlic, and spread over the ribs. Peel and slice the onion. Put the onion in a casserole or ovenproof dish. Place the ribs on top and season with salt and pepper.
  • Dissolve the stock cube in 1/2 cup of boiling water, add the vinegar, and pour it all over the ribs. Cover and cook in a hot oven (400F/200C/Ga Mark 6-7) for 1 1/4-1 1/2 hours (the longer time for the larger amount). Remove the lid for the last 20 minutes to allow the meat to become crisp. The sauce should be sticky when cooked. The jacket potato can be cooked in the oven with the casserole.

1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
1/2 chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
3 -4 lbs pork spareribs, trimmed of fat
2 (16 ounce) cans pork and beans
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
2 teaspoons chili powder or 2 teaspoons barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325F degrees.
  • Shake flour in the oven cooking bag.
  • Place the bag in a 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
  • Add BBQ sauce, onion and bell pepper.
  • Squeeze the bag to blend ingredients.
  • Cut the ribs into serving size pieces and place in the bag.
  • Turn the bag to coat the meat with the sauce.
  • Arrange ribs in a single layer.
  • Close with a nylon tie.
  • Make a few slits in the top of the bag.
  • Bake 1 1/2 hours or until tender.
  • Variation: add Ribs and Beans dinner ingredients.
  • Note:The sauce will cause the inside of the bag to turn dark. Relax, it is not burning.

3.5 pounds pork spareribs

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Shake flour in large oven bag; place in 13x9-inch baking pan. Add barbecue sauce, onion and green pepper. Squeeze bag to blend ingredients (or just stir with large spoon.)
  • Cut ribs in serving size pieces; place in bag. Turn bag to coat ribs with sauce. Arrange in even layer. Close with nylon tie; make 6 half inch slits in top.
  • Bake 1 1/2 hours or until tender.
